We have more than twenty models of sashes for dresses, handcrafted in our workshop with the best leather. For all situations and in all sizes.

A sash may not sound as nice as an obi belt or a wrap belt, which are the trendy English terms, but the meaning is the same. A more or less wide strip that is placed around the waist and tied without buckles. It seems simple, but it is an elegant and sophisticated element that defines the waist, improves the silhouette and helps all kinds of outfits look better. These are our sashes for dresses.

Accessories play a crucial role in complementing and enhancing an outfit. Women's sashes have a long history dating back many centuries. They probably originated in the Middle East, where these accessories were initially used as a way to tighten and secure clothing at the waist. Over time, the women's sash evolved and became an integral part of fashion and culture in different areas of the world.

In the West, they are an accessory that has recently become associated with the bohemian style, the famous and well-known boho, although their use is very widespread and is already part of everyday fashion. That is why you can see them in very diverse situations, including glamorous celebrity parties, red carpets at events or in the day-to-day life in which millions of women combine the details of their personal style with comfort and trends.

Natural leather has ideal qualities for sashes, given the softness, texture, durability, personality and nobility of the material, which allows for the creation of a wide variety of products that adapt to different needs, tastes and styles.

“When choosing a women's sash for a party, it is important to take into account the design, the material, its quality and ability to match our outfits. It is key to know the effect we want to achieve, which often depends on the colour and also on the type of silhouette our body has,” explains Laura Gómez, designer and head of Juan-Jo.

Here are some tips for pairing cummerbunds. We'll start with dresses, which are the most common pairing. Depending on the style and color of the dress, the cummerbund can be worn in different ways to flatter your figure and add a touch of style.

Combined with dresses

A leather cummerbund is the perfect accessory for an evening dress. You can use it to highlight the waist of a shapeless dress or to accentuate the silhouette if the dress is fitted. Opt for a minimalist cummerbund for a more subtle style.

Color contrast is important. For example: black or brown on light tones. And metallic tones – gold, silver, bronze, etc. – on dark dresses.

With fitted dresses, a wide, contrasting-coloured sash helps to highlight the waist and create an hourglass silhouette. We recommend placing it at the narrowest part of the waist.

For loose dresses, the sash can be wide or narrow and serves to add structure and definition to a loose or straight-cut dress. It can be placed at the waist or even on the hip, depending on the style of the dress and the effect you are going for.

Flowy tunics and summer kimonos are the perfect allies for sashes, as they provide structure, enhance the figure and slim the figure. In this area, colour combinations are freer than ever and bursts of colour are allowed. The right contrast is always a positive factor.

With fitted dresses: a wide, contrasting-coloured sash helps to highlight the waist and create an hourglass silhouette. We recommend placing it at the narrowest part of the waist.

Combined with skirts

If the skirt is high-waisted, a wide or narrow sash will help to accentuate the waist and add a touch of style. Preferably, place it at the narrowest part of the waist.
With pleated or flared skirts: a narrow or medium sash can be a great option to add extra detail to these skirts. You can place it at the waist or at the hip, depending on the style of the skirt and the desired effect.

With pencil skirts: A wide, contrasting-coloured sash can create an interesting visual game, combined with a tight pencil skirt. Place it at the waist.

Combined with blouses or tops

You can use a sash to accentuate the waist of a loose blouse or to add a touch of style to a plain top. Pair an embellished sash with a lace blouse for an elegant and feminine look. Or choose a simpler one for a casual, bohemian style. The color of the sash should always contrast with the blouse and harmonize with the rest.
Likewise, a narrow or medium-sized sash - never wide - can be an excellent option to enhance the V-neckline of a blouse or top.

With pants

You can use a cummerbund to add an element of contrast to dark trousers. Opt for an embellished cummerbund for a modern and bold style. Or select a narrow cummerbund with a bow for a feminine and sophisticated look.

With suits and jackets

Leather cummerbunds are ideal for complementing formal outfits. You can wear them with two-piece suits, jacket and trouser sets, or cocktail, party and event looks to add a touch of elegance and style. Measure the colour and details of the cummerbund carefully to avoid excessive contrasts with your outfit. Opt for a wide cummerbund with embellishments for a luxurious and sophisticated result. A narrow cummerbund will give you a more sober and refined style.

“Our leather cummerbunds are very varied because we use different types of leather (generally nappa and suede), we have designs of different widths and lengths, many colours (black, camel, red, etc.) and we also use decorative elements such as metal studs or tassels and beads to achieve different finishes in some models. Also noteworthy are our metallic leather cummerbunds in gold, silver, rose gold and bronze, a very beautiful and unusual colour,” explains Laura Gómez.

In the Juan-Jo Gallery collection we have more than twenty models of sashes for dresses , handcrafted in our workshop and available in all sizes, since if necessary we make them especially with the measurement you request.

“Cummerbunds are a very interesting accessory because without a large investment, a single all-round model – for example in black or camel brown – can enhance many garments. In addition, it is an accessory that never goes out of fashion and always adds a sophisticated and elegant touch,” adds Laura Gómez.
